Fred is the Founder and Managing Director of Old Port Advisors and sets the firm’s strategic direction and guides its overall operations. Fred originally established the firm as Investment Management & Consulting Group in 1994. In addition to oversight, Fred actively works with clients and has primary responsibility for their overall financial planning and portfolio management. He also chairs our Investment Policy Committee where he oversees the firm’s portfolio management services.
Fred received his Bachelor of Science degree from Vassar College in Psychology and Political Science in 1978. He has actively served in the Financial Services profession for more than 40 years focusing on Family Counseling and Intergenerational Planning. Previously, Fred served in various roles with Commonwealth Equity Services, Prudential Securities and all the way back to his days at E.F. Hutton.
Within the professional community, he is a member of the Maine CFA Society, Maine Estate Planning Council, Maine Employee Benefit Council, and the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce.
Fred volunteers and provides pro bono work for several organizations including The Children’s Dream Factory and The Live Poets’ Society. He has also served on a variety of cultural and community boards, including the Portland String Quartet, the Portland Symphony’s Ovation, Seventy-Five State Street, the Community Television Network, Opportunity Farm for Boys & Girls, Wayfinder Schools, and most recently as the Treasurer of Bay Chamber Concerts & Music School.
Fred was born in New York and is the only member of his family not to hail from Maine. He moved to Maine after completing his studies at Vassar and called it home since. Fred and his wife, Sylvia, reside in Portland, Maine and Columbus, Ohio. The have three grown sons, two daughters, three grandchildren, along with an extensive extended family.
